Intern Program

The Business Technology Center does projects for outside clients/businesses that are in a start-up or expansion mode and are either a technology-based business or applying technology as part of their business plan. These projects usually focus on market opportunities, market entry strategy development, competitive analysis, business plan development and/or financial modeling. To complete a project takes 100 to 150 hours; and involves data collection and assessment as well as reducing the data to actionable information.

Dr. Daugherty, April Wilson-Reasor and Jonathan BerisfordThe BTC employs students, with the appropriate background, to assist in completing its projects. Assistance and direction is provided by the BTC Director. Students are hired on a per project basis.

If you would like to have the experience of working on real world problems and get paid for your work, please contact the BTC Director, Dick Daugherty. He will arrange a time to meet you and review the type of work done by the BTC as well your compatibility with current project needs.

Comments from former students:

Jonathan Berisford, MBA

My internship at the BTC has given me the hands on experience I need to make myself much more marketable in the business world. Working on a variety of projects in a number of different industries has really helped shape my work style and focus my career goals.

Anita Hernandez, Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Daugherty was incredibly helpful in answering questions and providing a clear project description and materials to start from.

Working with someone on a project that is going to produce results and have an impact on the work is very exciting. In classes, you are given a 'real-world' problem that someone had previously solved and asked to replicate the results. It is not nearly as motivating to do this as it is to be the first one to accomplish something that will be used to benefit a company or individual.

Karim Damak, MBA

Working for the BTC was a great experience. It allowed me to gain hands-on experience with real marketing research projects. Not only are the jobs intellectually stimulating but each of the projects has allowed me to understand a new industry and to apply the business and marketing concepts learned in the class.
